St Leonards boss Andy Thomson admitted his team got it wrong when they were dumped out of the Sussex Senior Cup by County League Sidley in midweek.
He said: "Some of our lads, especially those who travel down from London, didn't realise how much the Sussex Senior Cup means to people. They probably thought it was just going to be a nice friendly local game. They didn't bargain for being outplayed. We simply weren't good enough.
"The sad thing is that I would sign four Sidley players today, but County League players simply don't show much ambition and are happy to stay at that level."
LANGNEY'S DOUBTS Langney Sports have a couple of doubts for the trip to Witney in the Dr Martens eastern division tomorrow. Defender Steve Willard is unavailable, while Daren Pearce twisted his ankle in the 3-0 win against Welling in the Dr Martens League Cup on Tuesday night.
Garry Wilson's men are now unbeaten in five matches, three of them wins, but the Langney boss is not getting too excited.
He said: "I'm conscious that runs can quickly come to an end, so I don't bother looking at statistics. But we've done all right recently. There are three different leagues within the eastern division. We've now moved out of the bottom one and into the middle pack. Now we want to try and reach that top bunch."
DOUBLE BLOW ROCKS REBELS Worthing have been rocked by the departure of their assistant manager and first choice goalkeeper.
Jason Rutherford stepped down as Sammy Donnelly's No.2 after last week's defeat by Staines, citing excessive travel demands.
Richard Waters followed suit after being beaten four times in Monday's FA Trophy defeat at Folkestone.
The former Burgess Hill goalkeeper revealed: "I can't say I've enjoyed the travelling. My work and my enjoyment have got to come first."
Donnelly, whose side have lost their last three matches, admitted: "We are in turmoil.
"I'm very disappointed to lose two key people with an important period coming up."
Mathew May is on standby to keep goal at Braintree tomorrow.
BOGNOR IN FOR DAVIS Bognor boss Jack Pearce was last night hoping to clinch the signing of Danny Davis.
The former Albion midfielder was due to join Rocks a week ago but has been laid low by a throat infection.
Rocks bid for a fourth successive win when Uxbridge visit Nyewood Lane.
Versatile Paul Smith is in Horsham's squad at home to Molesey after re-joining the club in midweek.
Boss John Maggs said: "I'm impressed with him. He has got pace and he's a strong lad."
Hornets need a win having taken just six points from their last seven league games.
HASTINGS ARE WOBBLING Hastings boss George Wakeling has held a clear-the-air meeting with his players after their poor run of form.
The midweek FA Trophy exit against Billericay was their fourth defeat in five matches.
The recently-appointed Hastings manager now knows his job is far harder than he first envisaged.
He said: "We played very well on Tuesday night against Billericay and certainly didn't deserve to lose the match 2-1. Last Saturday's 1-0 league defeat against Dartford was a different story. We were awful.
"After that match, I had a long chat with the players. They know that to win matches more effort has got to be put in. "
Duncan McArthur (ligaments) and Paul Ruddy (toe) are both doubtful for tomorrow's eastern division trip to Rothwell.
