The "Welcome to Brighton" sign at Patcham roundabout is already looking decidedly shabby.
It always looked rather cheap. Can I suggest two New Year resolutions for Brighton and Hove Council?
If you have any money to spare, give first priority to the repair and maintenance of the city's Victorian and Edwardian heritage, much of which, eg the bandstand, the seafront railings, the Madeira terraces, is looking sadly neglected.
Don't embark on any new projects, no matter how small, unless you can afford to use the best designers and materials.
