Oh dear! Simon Battle seems to have got it wrong again (December 21).

Campaign is not a refuge for "right-wing loonies" and neither is it based in Kemp Town. Nine of Campaign's 15-member committee live in Hove and three of those nine live in Mr Battle's ward.

Campaign is a non-political organisation with active supporters from all sides of the political divide who come together with one purpose in mind, "A Better Brighton and Hove".

Unlike Mr Battle, who ostracised his constituents by saying if Hove residents didn't like Labour policies they could move, we ask that all residents of Brighton and Hove from all political groups maintain their rights of democratic freedom by reminding councillors such as Mr Battle that he was empowered by the people of Vallance Ward to represent their interests at Brighton and Hove Council, and that he is accountable to them and not to political rhetoric from central Government.

As a group and as residents of Brighton and Hove, we have the right to question and the right of answer.

If Mr Battle finds this basic principle a little difficult to understand, I will, as a trade unionist and lifetime supporter of the Labour Party, give up some of my spare time to educate him in the basics of socialism, the democratic process and what it really means, as opposed to being one of the New Labour lemmings.
