Albion's trip to promotion rivals Rochdale tomorrow has become a victim of the big freeze.

The match was postponed after a lunchtime inspection at Spotland today.

Heavy snow on Wednesday night and much of yesterday fell onto on an already frozen pitch.

Local referee Clive Edwards looked at the pitch earlier today and had no hesitation in calling the game off.

Continuing bad weather has already accounted for a number of other fixtures being postponed tomorrow. Among them are Aston Villa's Premiership clash with Leicester plus Leyton Orient's match at Carlistle in the Third Division.

Attention will now turn to Monday's game against Southend at Withdean when Albion's new Millennium kit will be worn for the first time.

The postponement will also give defender Matthew Wicks more time to recover from his hamstring strain, although he remains a doubt for the Southend showdown.

Meanwhile, Carl Hutchings is poised to clash with Albion at Withdean over the festive period after all.

Hutchings, who pulled out of a move to the Seagulls last season at the 11th hour to join Brentford, is scheduled to sign for Southend for the rest of the season.

Bristol City are paying up his contract and he could make his away debut for Southend on Monday.

Hutchings has been on loan to Exeter City, but he missed their 2-0 defeat at Withdean last Friday.
