I write with reference to Victor Causabon-Vincent's refusal to pay council tax (Argus, December 20).
As district and town councillor, residents who are facing eviction because of the problems housing benefit and council tax arrears should contact me.
For people on low or fixed incomes, the nightmare of filling in the long forms and the confusion that can arise because of the different departments involved is appalling. With council tax arrears, once they reach a certain amount the bailiffs call. People such as Mr Causabon-Vincent can find themselves with serious debt problems and breaking the law without leaving their homes or spending any money.
Mr Causabon-Vincent has said he eats better in prison than he does at home; this is a shameful indictment of the treatment of pensioners and indeed all on low incomes in the fourth richest nation in the world.
