Gerald Sargent won the Pevensey Bay Aqua match with 12lb 6 1/2oz during a three-hour session on an evening when catches were mainly whiting and pout.
The other leading weights out of the 30 who took part were Keith Erridge 11lb 3oz, Barry McWilton 9lb 7oz, Phil Metcalfe 9lb 6oz and Neil Pamment 8lb 15oz.
The club championship will be decided today during the last match of the year which will include a challenge match against Hastings and St Leonards.
Erridge just leads from Pamment in the championship.
The Eastbourne Nomads Open attracted only 35 competitors who landed mainly whiting and pout.
Keith Erridge (Pevensey Bay Aqua) was the winner on 4lb 4 1/4oz and picked up £130. Ron Yates (Nomads) had 3lb 15 3/4oz and £100. Vernon Vivian (Brighton Post Office) had 3 lb 12 3/4oz and £60 and John Histed (unattached) 2lb 3 3/4oz and £40.
John Grinstead (Newhaven Shore) picked up £35 for his flounder of 9 1/2oz and Histed the same amount with a whiting of 12 3/4oz. The ladies prize went to Carol Vivian with a 6oz whiting.
The Nomads Club Championship has been won for the first time by Ron Roberts.
JOHN Woolford leads from Colin Sargeant in the Aqua Club's Casablanca Cup which carries a winner's prize of £100. The cup is decided over points awarded for specimens.
