Jobs will be created in Brighton after pub chain JD Wetherspoon announced it will open a new pub in the city.

The company is investing £140 million on developing 110 new pubs across the country, including one in Brighton.

It is not known how many jobs will be created in the city following the announcement.

Tim Martin, chairman of JD Wetherspoon, said: "We are delighted to be able to start the New Year with the creation of so many new jobs. Our pubs continue to prove popular, wherever they open, and we are confident that the new outlets will be just as successful."

The new pubs will be in a wide range of former buildings, including cinemas, shops, post offices and banks.

Wetherspoon operates 465 pubs in the UK, employing about 12,500 workers.

The chain, which opened its first pub in London in 1979, aims to create 3,000 jobs throughout the country during the next two years.
