An elderly woman was dragged to the ground by two burglars she disturbed when she returned home.
She was thrown to the floor as one man snatched the handbag she was carrying.
The thief, and an accomplice, fled with the bag which contained the woman's pension book, cash, birth certificate and her passport.
The attack happened in Wellington Mews, Hastings, at 5.30pm.
The woman had been out shopping and was struggling with her keys when the door suddenly flew open and she was dragged inside.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should call 0845 6070 999.
