Albion fans have persuaded the club to investigate a big club versus country clash.

The second-placed Seagulls are scheduled for a showdown with leaders Chesterfield at Withdean on Saturday March 24.

That is the same day as England continue their World Cup qualifying campaign against Finland at Anfield.

Many Albion fans are also regular England supporters.

They have asked the club to switch the Chesterfield match to either the Friday night or Sunday and chief executive Martin Perry has agreed to look into the matter.

"It has been raised with us," Perry revealed. "There have been a number of messages from supporters.

"We will have a look at it and see if there is anything we can do.

"I am not making any promises. We need the agreement of the managers, both clubs and the League."

Albion have happy memories of the last time a fixture clash was avoided with the national team.

Their 2-0 win at Hull in October was brought forward to a Friday night as England were playing Germany at Wembley the following day.

Today's scheduled clash against lowly Lincoln at Withdean was called off early yesterday morning after a pitch inspection by Lewes referee Steve Tomlin.

And Tuesday's LDV Vans Trophy tie against Brentford has been switched to Griffin Park.

Albion boss Micky Adams said: "I am disappointed because it is a cup competition and we have been drawn at home.

"Having said that I am quite prepared to sacrifice home advantage if it helps Ecovert get our pitch in some sort of decent condition.

"I could have said no to the switch, but I am doing my bit for the cause."

Meanwhile, tickets for Albion's next home match against Barnet on January 20 go on sale on Monday from 10am.

The trip to Exeter seven days later is all-ticket. They go on sale to season ticket holders in the away supporters scheme on January 15 and the following day to non-season ticket holders in the scheme.

Seats are priced £11 for adults, £8 senior citizens and £6 under-16s. The corresponding terrace prices are £9, £6 and £6.
