Hundreds of elderly and disabled people could get free bus passes if a council's new community services budget is approved.
At the moment people in Chichester who qualify for concessionary fares pay £10 a year for their pass to cover administrative costs.
But the charge could be abolished as part of a series of projects designed to promote "social inclusion" which are being recommended by the district council's Community Policy Review Committee.
Free passes will cost the council £86,650 a year if the move wins the support of the local authority's Executive Board which runs the local authority under the cabinet style system.
The overall budget for community services will total just over £7.4 million and also includes a series of community safety schemes including new CCTV cameras for Midhurst and Selsey.
