A gang of five men held a knife to a Mid Sussex teenager's head and tried to rob him.

Police are appealing for help to find the men who held up the 19-year-old in Crawley.

The victim had withdrawn money from Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland cash machines in High Street.

As he walked through the town centre to the Goffs Park area between 8.45pm and 9pm he was approached by the five men.

They demanded money and when the teenager said he didn't have any a knife was held to his head.

He managed to push the offenders away and run off, suffering a small cut. Nothing was stolen.

The man with the knife was black, 5ft 6in to 5ft 10in tall, in his mid twenties and wore a metallic purple jacket. The other four offenders were also black.

Detective Constable Andy Richardson said: "This appears to be a particularly nasty attack where the victim has been followed from a cashpoint machine."

Anyone with information should call him on 0845 6070999.
