Wakehurst Place, the most successful tourist attraction in the Mid Sussex area, has announced record visitor numbers for last year.
The figures are described as even more remarkable considering rainfall at the Ardingly estate last year was measured at 1336mm.
Wakehurst's deputy curator David Hardman said: "In each of the final three months of last year, there were more than 200mm of rain.
"They say it never rains but it pours - well, that's certainly been the case here."
During the year more than 300,000 people passed through the gates, up from 280,000 in 1999.
