A motorist is to appeal against his prison sentence.
Roy Whiting, 41, formerly of St Augustine Road, Littlehampton, was jailed for 22 months last September.
He pleaded guilty at Chichester Crown Court to stealing a Vauxhall Nova and to dangerous driving.
The court heard how police saw Whiting driving the Nova in Crawley early on July 23 last year.
It led to a chase at up to 60mph in 30mph zones. Whiting also reversed down the A23 against the flow of traffic.
Linsey Burn, prosecuting, said he drove at police cars which had to swerve to avoid a crash.
The pursuit ended in St John's Close when the Nova hit a parked car.
Ian Morley, defending, said Whiting took the car for shelter after becoming homeless.
He was sentenced to 18 months for dangerousdriving.
Whiting's solicitor said yesterday that he would appeal against his sentence.
