After reading Lord Bassam's article (Argus, January 4), I do wonder if he lives in Brighton or Hove. The place he describes is certainly not the place I know.

We have massive waste disposal problems, in fact certain places in Brighton and Hove look like landfill sites.

Travellers encampments in Stanmer, Hollingbury and Preston Park, asylum seekers, rough sleepers, beggars, a place not to walk on your own after dark for fear of assault and to top it all, an invisible police force because you hardly see them.

As for his comments about a stuffy Brighton council in the 1970s, if it wasn't for the old council he and his cronies would not have had the land to squander as they have had.

We have a Moulsecoomb Centre which was supposedly built for the people of Moulsecoomb but there was no consultation on what they really wanted.

The planned football stadium at Falmer is another disaster like the Millennium Dome. There is only one place for a football stadium, which is Waterhall. Forget areas of outstanding natural beauty, this council moves the goalposts whenever it likes and does.
