The Royal Sussex Hospital must be top of the list when it comes to bad hygiene.

I was recently sitting with my husband in a cubicle of the accident and emergency department with blood and urine on the floor. It was not cleaned, just had a sheet thrown over it.

My husband has Alzheimers and is paralysed down the left side of his arm and leg. He is double incontinent and has to have all his food liquidised and be hand-fed. He contracted MRSA. I'm not surprised as the room he was in was not cleaned.

There were dirty sheets on the floor, there was breakfast and lunch still in the room at 3pm, needles were left on the bed and not put in special boxes and bins were overflowing.

In addition there was no porridge, ice cream or hot milk (I had to buy ice cream). I had to protest to get rails on the side of his bed as my husband had fallen out. He could not move on his own and I found him hanging out of bed with no gown on and nurses who could not care less.

When he was moved back to the Brighton General there was a marked difference, my husband received very good treatment from their nurses.

All I can say if I do take ill, please do not take me the Royal Sussex.
