A mother of three young children has been found dead at a house in Burgess Hill.

A neighbour found the body of 29-year-old Tracey Steer at a house in Denham Road.

Ms Steer, a single parent, lived about half a mile away at the Temple Grove estate in a terraced house.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath last night but proved inconclusive.

Police are awaiting the outcome of further tests before deciding whether her death may be suspicious.

Mid Sussex coroner's officer Barry Markham said: "There was nothing at the scene to suggest it was suspicious. But we won't know for certain until we are able to establish the cause of death."

The owners of the house in Denham Road are away in Bermuda and Ms Steer had been calling on the house to walk their dog.

She was found on Wednesday evening. The previous night she had been heard playing loud music at the house but there was no sign of a party.

Friends who had become concerned called at the house and discovered her.

They knocked on the door of a neighbour who then tried to save Ms Steer, using guidance given by paramedics over the telephone.

She said: "I had to go in and see if she was still alive. She was dead."

One neighbour said: "We just heard music and stuff till the small hours. Just the music and the dog barking. He doesn't usually bark but he was barking quite a lot.

"From what I knew of her she was very sweet."

A friend said: "She was very sociable. She had lots of friends. She was a nice, warm person."
