The Floral Clock in Palmeira Square was one of the minor delights of Hove, seen by thousands of people every day.
It's sad the clock, which has been there almost half a century, should have been put out of action by vandals.
And it's good news that Brighton and Hove Council is planning to revive and restore the clock by Easter.
It should be possible to protect the clock so vandals do not get at it and succeed in destroying it again.
Training floodlights on the clock and a closed-circuit TV camera would ensure anyone trying to tamper with it received the full glare of unwelcome publicity.
