Worthing's Tories have picked Brian Lynn as their new leader after a spate of resignations.
The Worthing councillor for Salvington, whose wife is the town's mayor, was voted in at a specially convened meeting.
The Conservative group no longer controls Worthing Council after members Jason Smith, Simon Craghill and David King all left.
They resigned in protest at the suspension of Andrew Garrett over his views on directly-elected mayors.
Former leader Tim Dice resigned, saying his work was "not appreciated" by colleagues.
