An assistant was punched as raiders grabbed cash from an off-licence till in Brighton last night.
Two black men, both about 19, entered Unwins in York Place at 9.20pm and waited until customers had left.
They forced open the till drawer and as the 28-year-old male cashier tried to close it he was punched in the face.
The thieves fled with a small quantity of cash.
Police are trying to trace witnesses, in particular a man and woman who left the shop seconds before the robbery.
One raider was 6ft tall and wore an Adidas jacket with hood. The other was 5ft 9in tall and wore a black woollen hat and dark clothing.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Constable Mel Oakley on 0845 6070999.
