The Pope is considering naming a man who lived 1,400 years ago as the patron saint of Internet users, Vatican sources have revealed.
Saint Isidore of Seville, who lived in the seventh century, was believed to have written the first encyclopaedia, the Etymologies, which included entries on medicine, mathematics, history and theology.
The Vatican first went online with its website www.vatican.va which it used to publish thousands of Catholic documents and Papal speeches.
Roman Catholics were first able to hear and see Pope John Paul II recite the Angelus prayers on Sundays and listen to his weekly audience in Wednesdays on the Vatican web page in 1998.
