Britons who prefer to buy their food in pounds and ounces can do so for another ten years.
The Government said imperial measurements can still be displayed with metric ones.
The traditional measurements were due to disappear at the end of last year when it became law to sell goods only in metric quantities in line with European Union directives.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Trade and Industry said: "We could apply for another review in ten years' time."
