Two horses were killed early today after being struck by a car when they escaped into a road.
The driver had to be cut from the wreckage of her Peugeot 106 after her car left the road and flipped on to its bonnet in Crawley Avenue, Crawley, at 1am.
The injured woman was taken to East Surrey Hospital, Redhill. She is not thought to be seriously hurt.
A second car, a VW Lupus, was also involved but the driver was not hurt. Four horses were running in the road when the accident happened.
The two remaining animals have been taken to Portslade Horse Rescue Centre while their owners are sought.
A Fire Brigade spokesman said: "Due to the speedy response of emergency services and the quick intervention of the Fire Service the woman's injuries were kept to a minimum."
