Lewes had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Chelmsford on Saturday in their first league game at the Southdown Club since October.

The pitch was heavily damaged by flooding four months ago and this was the first time Lewes had used it in competitive action since repairs were completed.

With Chelmsford second in National League division one, this was a match Lewes needed to win to boost their own play-off hopes.

However, it was a dour and often physical affair which saw Lewes fail to take advantage when the visitors were reduced to eight men at one stage in the second half, with three players sinbinned.

Lewes took the lead on 26 minutes when skipper Jeremy Boyse, returning from a one-match suspension, scored with a powerful low flick. However, Chelmsford secured a point with a scrambled second half effort from Craig Fulton.

Lewes manager Peter Boyse said: "We are satisfied with a point but it doesn't do our cause a lot of good."

Lewes: Hibbert; Standing, Champness, Heslop, Walker; Hawes, Hill, Poulsen; A. Boyse, Wright, J. Boyse. Sub used: Van Tromp.

Man of the Match: Danny Poulsen.

East Grinstead produced another Jekyll and Hyde performance as they lost 5-3 away to Doncaster on Sunday.

In the first half Grinstead were in total control. With goals from Andrew Medcalf, Matthew MacNeill and Neil Turk they stormed into a 3-1 lead, and had Turk and Medcalf taken other chances the half time score could have been 6-1.

In the second half Doncaster improved, Grinstead's faults returned and, in what coach Glenn Freeman described as a "Mad seven minutes", the score changed from 3-1 up to 4-3 down.

Towards the end East Grinstead rallied and only a good save prevented Thomas Thil from levelling the score. However, with players pushed up searching for an equaliser Doncaster grabbed another goal.

East Grinstead: Dakin, Holland, P. Turk, King, Perriss, R. Payne, Thil, B. Payne, Male, Medcalf, Ogden. Subs: Thomas, Harms, N. Turk, MacNeill.

Man of the Match: Mike Holland.
