Substitute Stuart Skan scored a last minute winner to send Hailsham Town to the top of Rich City County League division two.
Skan was on hand to side-foot home a cross from Sam Taylor to earn Hailsham a 2-1 victory away to Crowborough.
The hosts had led 1-0 until ten minutes from time, thanks to a Robbie Card penalty.
It was a penalty which drew Hailsham level on 80 minutes, with top-scorer Duncan Jones netting his 15th of the campaign following a handball offence and it looked like it would end all square until Skan struck.
Hailsham boss Mark Leaney said: "We dominated the 90 minutes, created a lot of chances but did not convert them. However, we kept at it and got our rewards in the end.
"Top of the table? I wish it was May! It is nice to be there but we realise there is an awful lot of hard work still to do."
Hailsham will welcome back three players, including recent Albion trialist Dave Adams, when they visit deposed league leaders Worthing United this Saturday.
Worthing lost top spot after going down 4-2 to Southwick, who have pushed themselves right into the promotion frame.
Superior finishing proved decisive for Wickers, who led 4-0 until nine minutes from time.
Daren Newman scored the first with a downward header from Jamie Quinlan's free kick and Jack Dineen added a second with a smart finish in the 31st minute. Tony Holden scored twice in a nine minute spell after half time, first converting Carl Southwell's cross and then latching on to Roy Pook's searching pass before beating two defenders and slotting home.
Worthing replied with a brace of Andy Preddy penalties following offences by Jason Tighe and Tom Graves, and Wickers boss Geoff Pook believes that gave the scoreline a fairer look.
He said: "We deserved to win but 4-0 would have flattered us. Both teams contributed to a good, open game but our finishing was excellent."
Southwick were bottom when Pook took over earlier in the season, so the manager is not getting carried away by promotion talk. "It was a great result for us. We had to go there and win. There are a lot of games we are facing that will be of that ilk."
Peacehaven are third in the table following a 3-1 win over Wealden on Friday. Allan Ashdown scored twice with headers and was also involved in Peacehaven's third goal after Mark Chalk had pulled one back.
Ashdown was brought down for a penalty which he took himself. The spot kick was saved but a re-take was ordered as the goalkeeper moved and this time Leighton Allen stepped up to convert it.
Peacehaven boss Peter Edwards said: "There are a few teams who are starting to drop off the pace but I still believe there are seven teams in the race."
One of those is Broadbridge Heath who returned to action with a 3-0 win over Westfield. Top-scorer Paul Young took his tally to 19 for the campaign with a brace while James Taylor hit the other.
Another is Oving who beat Crawley Down 3-0. Alex Stay scored twice and Steve Rishman was also on target.
