Worting boss Sammy Donnelly is angry after press reports this week said he had come down hard on player Danny Smith after he was sent off during a game against Bromley on January 27.

A newspaper reported Donnelly had fined Smith for his dismissal for violent conduct and claimed the Rebels boss had endorsed the match-day reporter's view of the incident.

Donnelly said: "The report was untrue. I haven't even spoken to Danny about the matter and any punishment he incurs will be dealt with at board level."

The Woodside Road outfit's manager has called for more consistency from referees after Worthing had their fourth player of the season sent off during last week's 3-2 defeat against Harlow Town when Neil Winter saw red.

Donnelly said: "We had Andy Legg referee us in a league game against Wealdstone and he was outstanding. He was never one of my favourite referees but he has improved greatly and I have a lot of respect for him and the way he referees football. Other referees should look to the way he imposes his authority on the game as that can save a lot of trouble later on."

Lee Isaac, who played professional football in Finland, is a target for Donnelly. He is to put in a seven day approach for the pacy Burgess Hill forward.
