I refer to the article regarding the financial difficulties owners and managers of residential homes are experiencing (Argus, February 12).

They are going to either sell up or raise fees substantially unless the Government subsidises them or the elderly residents or both.

My niece and her husband started their own computer-related business about 12 years ago and are doing well. They both work hard in the business and employ about 20 graduates, cleaners etc. They pay large fees to an agency for each graduate.

If my niece and spouse were losing money and went bankrupt they would not expect an infusion of cash from the taxpayer or government to boost their profit. They would be obliged to dissolve their business and find a job.

I say if you don't like the heat in the kitchen, get out and find work, especially if you have medical qualifications. We need nurses badly. It is a wonderful vocation and they deserve more money, as do care workers, who are disgracefully exploited.
