Every parent wants the best for their children and as a mother of one, I am no exception to this rule.
As my daughter attends Cardinal Newman Catholic School, I was shocked to learn of Brighton and Hove Council's proposal to cut travel funds that many parents depend on to send their children to the school of their choice.
Out of necessity, Catholic children travel long distances to attend school in this area and should these proposals go ahead, it would result in a devastating effect on Catholic schools across East Sussex, not to mention the educational system.
Forming the main part of the council's argument is overspending on social services, made worse by the recent floods.
However, now that Brighton and Hove has attained city status, is more money not available?
The council has also assessed its spending, bringing in savings of nearly £2 million plus a further funding of £6.5 million.
I thought the council was beginning to understand the importance of encouraging the use of its public transport service.
Should funded travel be cut, I can't help feeling a situation will be created with the opposite effect.
Looking at these figures, is there not a good argument against taking away such a vital service?
