A motorcycle paramedic was injured in a head-on crash as he rushed to the scene of a traffic accident.
He suffered a fractured pelvis and broke his leg in two places after the collision with a car.
The paramedic was travelling on the B2028 Turners Hill Road in Crawley Down on his way to an accident at the junction of Grange Road and Vicarage Road.
More paramedics arrived at the scene and their injured colleague was taken to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.
The unnamed paramedic has undergone surgery on his leg and may need further operations.
Sussex Ambulance Service chief executive David Griffiths visited the injured paramedic at the hospital last night.
He is the third motorcycle medic to be involved in an accident while attending an emergency call in less than a month.
In January, a paramedic was taken to hospital after he was involved in an accident in Goring Road, Worthing.
Last week another wrote off his motorcycle in a crash in Worthing town centre.
