A balanced, non-propagandist Argus piece would have refrained from belittling opponents of trendy reform and presented a factual refutation.

Sneering at the use of a provision of the Local Government Act as "little-known" (in common with most Acts of Parliament) is to sneer at democracy.

The old system may be creaking and cumbersome but you said nothing to convince those of us who will be asked to vote on this issue in a local referendum that the new system will be any better.

Why always such polarised positions? Proper, democratic debate would throw up a multitude of alternatives.
