Langney Sports were brought back down to earth after their great win against Chelmsford when they crashed 5-0 at Grantham Town in the Eastern Division last night.
After a scrappy first quarter of an hour, the home side knocked the stuffing out of Langney with two goals in a minute.
First Nathan Godden gave away a needless free kick which John Hawley crashed home from 20 yards. Then barely a minute later Gary Bull beat keeper Will Packham with a drive from 25 yards.
Matt Allen came closest to a reply when home keeper Mario Ziccardi tipped his 25 yard drive onto the post.
But a goal after 56 minutes effectively killed off the visitors when the usually reliable Darren Baker underhit a back-pass and Rick Ranshaw ran through to make it 3-0.
Adrian Speed headed in Grantham's fourth with eight minutes to go before substitute Tony Simmons scored in the last minute after a quickly taken free-kick.
Hastings Town's climb up the table was slowed by a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Baldock Town at the Pilot Field.
Third-placed Baldock struck seven minutes from time through a stunning long range drive from substitute Dean Cook.
Hastings had lead for most of a hard fought match after opening the scoring inside ten minutes through Paul Ruddy. A partially cleared corner was picked up by Stuart Playford and his ball towards the box found Ruddy who made no mistake with a low, angled shot.
Baldock responded with a couple of chances and goalkeeper Tony Kessell saved well to deny Derek Brown.
Tony Burt went close to doubling the lead but he was unable to keep his close range header down.
Both teams could have won it late on when Hastings substitute Graham Webb shot wide and Kessell parried well from Mike Bignall.
A penalty on the stroke of half time was enough to earn Ashford Town a 1-0 win over St Leonards in a drab game at the Homelands. Saints' winger Danny Fletcher brought down Paul Ribbens as he dribbled across the box and Tony Eeles sent debutant keeper Jason Curtis the wrong way from the spot.
Few clear chances were created by either side, due in no small part to an uneven pitch.
Saints' best fell to Simon Fox from Dominic Barclay's flick, but his shot was blocked and the goalkeeper tidied up.
The better second half openings fell to substitute Shaun Loft, who hit the first well but straight at the keeper before heading the second wide.
Ashford's main threat came from their tricky left winger Kirk Watts, but he too was unable to make the final pass.
