Ten homeless heroin addicts in Brighton and Hove could be sent to the exclusive Priory Clinic in London to help them kick their habits.

The will have a chance to break their addiction thanks to a £100,000 Government hand-out.

The Health Department cash means the ten chosen rough sleepers could be sent to the exclusive Priory, where celebrities Kate Moss and Paula Yates have had treatment.

So far, places have been secured for seven of the chosen ten outside Brighton and Hove.

One will go to a private hospital in London, one will go to a NHS hospital, and five will go to facilities provided by the voluntary sector. A decision on the rest is due in March.

The Department of Health stipulated the £100,000 must be spent on people with opiate addictions.

Brighton and Hove's homelessness tsar Helen Keats decided to focus on ten of the city's most vulnerable homeless heroin addicts.

She believes finding detoxification and rehabilitation facilities best suited to their needs will get them off the streets for good.

Ms Keats said: "The golden ten could go into detox facilities in Brighton or Hove or they could be sent elsewhere.

"They could go to the Priory if that is deemed to be the most appropriate place for them. The money is there and we have to offer the right treatment for each person for it to be effective."
