Chelsea, the UK's seventh largest building society, said today its mutual status had brought benefits worth £30 million to its members.
The society, which last month resisted pressure to hold a vote on demutualisation, said the figure was the result of better interest rates than those that would have been achieved as a bank.
Announcing its yearly figures today, the Chelsea said net mortgage lending was at a record £528 million.
