England are keeping tabs on Albion star Bobby Zamora.
Manager Micky Adams revealed today: "I have spoken to somebody at the FA. It was a general chat, but the FA are aware of Bobby Zamora."
Zamora is unlikely to be named in Howard Wilkinson's under-21 squad tomorrow for the game against Spain at St Andrew's next Tuesday.
But Wilkinson, Adams' former boss at Leeds, is keeping a close eye on the international future of Albion's young scoring sensation.
Zamora's mother was born in England and his father in Trinidad and Tobago, so he qualifies to play for both countries. Trinidad have already tried to lure him into their World Cup squad, but the 20-year-old wants to keep his international options open.
Albion have turned down bids of £1.5 million from Wigan and £1.2 million from Cardiff for 20-goal Zamora. Meanwhile, Adams has pledged his faith in rookie defender Adam Virgo to provide promotion cover.
Virgo was back on the bench for Tuesday's 1-0 home win against Blackpool.
The centre half, 18 last month, has been put on standby, with Matthew Wicks sidelined by a torn hamstring.
Adams said: "We are looking at a month for Matt. But I've got young Virgo and he is coming on day by day, so I am not too worried."
Danny Cullip, just back from a three-match ban, partnered goal hero Andy Crosby against Blackpool as Albion returned to a flat back four.
The chances of Virgo being pressed into action have increased as Cullip is now on the brink of another suspension. He collected his fourth yellow card of the campaign in last Saturday's defeat at Cheltenham.
Adams still hopes to sign two players on loan before Saturday's home game against lowly York. He said: "I made some calls yesterday and I am just waiting for answers."
