I have heard Brighton's oldest church, St Nicholas, is being renovated and understand the ancient fitments being ripped out will probably be replaced with utility seating.
I dread it when this council says it's for community needs. The church will no doubt end up looking like a school hall. I hope Brighton and Hove City Council employs professional archaeologists to survey the ancient remains of the medieval structure beneath the church floor.
Much damage can be done by hasty refurbishments.
