A Hove tobacconist who was raided twice in two days believes thieves and smugglers are making a mint selling stolen cigarettes.
Burglars broke into Burkitts in Church Road, Hove, last night and on Tuesday night and made off with hundreds of cigarettes.
In the first raid the thieves smashed down the door to enter the premises.
The same burglars are believed to have returned the following night and destroyed boards which had been put up over the smashed glass.
Joan Shelton, owner of the shop which first opened in 1873, said: "We have had an awful lot of break-ins over the years and once they came in by making a hole in the ceiling.
"Stolen cigarettes are easily disposable because there is no identification on them.
"You can buy them over the counter in lots of pubs in Brighton and Hove."
Police are appealing for anyone who is offered stolen cigarettes to get in contact.
