surely cyclists should use the cycleways and roads provided for vehicle users - a bike is a vehicle, is it not?

Pavements, however, are designed for people to walk on. As such, surely cyclists should get off their bikes and walk as well?

One can argue the roads are dangerous and pavements are safer. However, if any road user feels they are in a dangerous situation they should surely stop their vehicle in a place of safety and proceed with caution, ie get off the bike and push it.

As a former bike owner (until it was stolen) in Brighton and Hove, I appreciate the roads in places are dangerous. However, it is only courtesy to my fellows not to ride on a pavement.

If I needed to be somewhere in a hurry, I would use a quieter side road or go by alternative means.

Surely what is missing in Brighton is courtesy to others. Sadly, it is a sign of the times that people don't care about their fellow road users.
