Albion boss Micky Adams has blasted Darren Freeman for his attitude in requesting a transfer.

The Brighton-born forward wants to leave after he was dropped for Tuesday's 1-0 home win against Blackpool. Adams, angry that the news leaked out on Tuesday night, has now accepted a written transfer request from last season's top scorer.

"I am disappointed with his attitude," said Adams. "I did not announce anything to the press.

"After he submitted his transfer request I got a phone call from his agent asking me to sit on it for a few days in case he changed his mind.

"I picked a side against Blackpool which I thought would win us the game and he wasn't in it.

"He is entitled not to agree, but there is a wrong way and a right way of knocking on my door and he chose the wrong way.

"I asked him then to submit a written transfer request and I have agreed he can go.

"I've never had one player ask to leave a club where I have been a manager.

"This is somebody as well who I had the upmost time and respect for, having taken him to two of my previous clubs."

Freeman will not be in the squad again for tomorrow's home game against relegation-threatened York. He's had X-rays on an arm injury sustained in the reserves at Peterborough on Wednesday.

Albion are expected to be unchanged, assuming Adams fails to land the two loan signings he is still pursuing.

York are only two places and two points off the bottom, but Adams said: "When I look at their squad they have under-achieved.

"They won at Rochdale on Tuesday and they beat us down here last season, so the warnings are there."
