Mid Sussex man Jim Marsh has reached the final of the Milkman of the Year contest.

He has been chosen as the South's regional finalist and will join 12 others from around the country in the battle for the title.

Jim, 48, of Cherry Close in Burgess Hill, has been chosen from more than 10,000 entries.

He has been a milkman for 12 years at the Burgess Hill depot of Unigate Dairy Crest. He will be whisked off to London for the final judging on April 6.

If named Milkman of the Year, he could win a £15,000 car.

Jim said: "I was totally stunned and shocked when I was told I'd made it through to the final. I just want to thank all my customers for nominating me."

Jim, who is married and has two children aged 15 and 18, starts his round at 1.40am every morning and delivers to more than 500 customers.

The Milkman of the Year competition aims to recognise the special service that milkmen provide to communities.

The runner-up will win a computer and printer worth more than £1,000 and there is a £750 computer for third place.
