Joanne Goode, on Southern Counties radio, is trying to get Adur pronounced not as "Ay-der" but "A-dure". I am one who objects to this.
Should we start calling Lewes "Loos" or Sussex "Suss-sex"?
I have suffered all my life from people pronouncing my name as "Odd-om", despite my pointing out there is only one "d". I come back with the comment that there is nothing "odd" about me, although my pals wouldn't agree.
I once put a house name up: "Odom Hall" (that's sod 'em all). My mates got the joke but when my second wife tumbled to the gag a fortnight later she made me take the sign down.
