Half a century ago, every little boy was said to want to be a train driver when he grew up and many of them achieved their ambition.
Girls never did because all train drivers were men. But that's not true any more as Fiona Pooley can testify.
She wanted to become an art teacher when she grew up but in fact became a debt manger for NatWest.
Now she has given up the stress of office life to undergo the extensive training needed to become a driver.
It's still largely a man's world with only 28 women among the 1,714 employed by Connex, even though the company has been advertising in women's magazines.
Some women may still regard the work as dirty and unglamorous, but it's not and Fiona is proving you can do it well while remaining feminine.
