A lifeboat crew plucked the body of a young woman out of the sea off Eastbourne yesterday.
The town's offshore lifeboat was launched at 10.30am after police received a report of an object in the water.
They discovered the body of a dark-haired woman, wearing a red top and black trousers, east of Eastbourne Pier, about 200 yards from the shore.
Attempts were made to resuscitate her on the lifeboat but she was pronounced dead on arrival at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne.
