Many residents of the Seven Dials area, which gives its name to the ward represented by Brighton and Hove City Council leader Lynette Gwyn-Jones, will be surprised to learn we will lose our electoral identity completely if the plans to change the voting area of Brighton and Hove are approved (Argus, February 22).
The map carvers have drastically split up existing wards held by the minority parties (St Peters and Brunswick and Adelaide) and created a series of central wards which do not necessarily share a community identity.
Changes are needed because of population differences and community identities.
But I would urge people to look at the plans in detail at local libraries and council offices and to write their comments to the manager of the Brighton and Hove Review at the Local Government Commission.
It might be better to have more, smaller communities with two councillors rather than a mish-mash that cannot be corrected for years to come.
