Former Albion Centre of Excellence player Michael Standing admits he may consider quitting Aston Villa because of a lack of first-team opportunities.
Standing, who played at England junior levels alongside West Ham's Joe Cole, joined Villa from Brighton at the same time as Gareth Barry three years ago and has been linked with a move to Birmingham.
He said: "It is flattering to be linked with any club, especially one of Birmingham's quality. I still have to see out my contract at Villa and they have offered me a new one. But I have to think carefully about my future and even though I know there is a rivalry between the two clubs I would have to put my own career first."
Barry is expected soon to sign a new five-year contract with Aston Villa.
