Marc Rice is on stand-by to go between the sticks as Worthing face a hectic ten-day schedule.

Rebels, buoyed by two successive wins, were facing the prospect of five games in little more than a week, starting at Walton and Hersham today.

With Lee Bray weighed down by work commitments and Matt May struggling with a knee injury, Rice may be forced into action as an emergency goalkeeper.

That holds no fears for the experienced striker, who scored late to round off last Saturday's 3-1 overdue defeat of Yeading.

He said: "I wouldn't mind that at all. I always go in goal on training nights for a laugh.

"I played there twice for Watford in the Combination when I was 17 against Ipswich and Charlton. I said would stand in at Ford the other night if I was needed. I would have got through 90 minutes in goal but I'm not sure I would have managed it out on the pitch."

With Rice struggling with a groin strain, it was left to young Jamie Cole to come off the bench and fire a dramatic late winner at Ford.

Rice said: "We have had some horrendous luck in the last few months and have made some silly mistakes but hopefully we have turned the corner."

With Bray strugg-ling to make midweek games, boss Sammy Donnelly faces a choice of asking May to play in pain, giving Rice the gloves or even calling in Jason Rutherford, who made a very brief goalkeeping appea-rance when Bray arrived late at Uxbridge last season.

Popular left back Mark Knee has been given a massive boost as he comes back from a broken leg.

Knee is due at Worthing hospital next Wednesday to have the metalwork removed from the injury.

Rebels players and fans had raised more than £300 in their efforts to pay for Knee to go private.

Director Matt Major said: "We are very excited by the news and, providing the operation goes ahead, will be asking supporters what they think we should do with the money."
