For the next five weeks, children are going to be hard at work producing costumes for the Brighton and Hove Festival's parade.

This used to be a splendid event until it was shoved into the back streets of Brighton. These streets are quite incapable of hosting a parade of such large proportions.

Last year, it was a shambles with two departure points, which I didn't know about. I missed half the parade because my video camera doesn't have a lens which sees around corners.

Each year, my video gets shorter and shorter. I even found myself going down a road where there wasn't even a cat to enjoy the parade.

Surely the children deserve the run of the promenade from the Palace Pier to Hove Lawns, where they can enjoy the family fun day afterwards?
