Residents were fuming after their electricity supply was cut off for more than 11 hours.
The blackout hit about 150 homes in Henfield Close, Whitehawk Road, Flimwell Close, Manor Way and Hamsey Close, all in Whitehawk, Brighton, shortly after 9.45pm yesterday.
It came on for an hour after 1am, but was again out of action at some homes for the rest of the morning.
Resident Peter Davis said: "Everything has been out of action - the street lights, fridge freezers, the lot. It has been more than 11 hours now.
"We've lost about £250 worth of frozen foods. There is a lady down the road who lost a freezer full of food too. It's all gone soggy."
