Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon hailed his stand-in striker Richard Carter as the title moved ever closer last night.
Carter, in for the holidaying Ashley Carr, was on target in an impressive 4-1 win at Wick.
Matt Ash set things moving with a super volley and Dave Stevens netted twice.
Croydon said: "It was a fabulous result for us and Richard was outstanding.
"He was a real thorn in their side."
Hillians need another 19 points from nine games to hit Croydon's title target.
Hitmen Jason Reed (2) and Paul Lee sent Selsey to a pleasing 3-0 win at Horsham YMCA.
Boss Danny Hinshelwood revealed: "We played three up front for a change and I think it took them by surprise."
Top match in the second division saw Southwick beat promotion rivals Broadbridge Heath.
