So there has been another massive rock fall at Beachy Head.
With this and the recent one at Brighton Marina, it must be obvious the whole length of chalk cliffs is highly unstable.
Huge volumes of traffic use the A259 and with the road being so close to the edge of the cliffs between Saltdean and Brighton, I cannot be the only one to foresee the nightmare scenario of the road simply caving in.
Apart from the immediate consequences of such a disaster, there would be long-term effects - the whole community would effectively be cut off. The alternative route could never cope.
Local people want to keep their areas of outstanding natural beauty, yet the building on green sites continues and the Government intends to accelerate the housing programme. All such building should stop.
We urgently need new roads to accommodate the increased volume of traffic to the east of Brighton and, yes, we need a good alternative route should the coastal road one day become a victim of unstable cliffs.
