Worthing firefighters say a mother and toddler were lucky to escape unharmed after her car burst into flames while she drove it.
The woman was heading along Broadwater Road with a young child in the back of the car when her engine started smoking as she pulled up beside Northbrook College.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "She did all the right things by getting out of the car quickly and getting her child out.
"A passer-by alerted the fire brigade and when we arrived, the engine was well alight."
