Teenager Nicholas Best persuaded his mother to buy a jacket owned by pop star Robbie Williams for £2,700 at a charity auction.
Nicholas and his mother Genny, of Portland Road, Hove, successfully bid for the jacket at Sotheby's, London, to raise money for Williams' charity Give It Sum.
The black crop-style jacket was worn by the singer at the 1998 Brit Awards.
Nicholas, a dedicated Robbie fan, has already worn it to show his friends and hopes some of the star's style will rub off on him.
The A-level student at Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College said: "I wore it yesterday but I don't think I will wear it that much because of how much it cost."
Mrs Best, said she had not planned to spend so much but got carried away by the atmosphere of the auction.
She said: "The number of bids was actually going up during the auction when it is normally the other way round as people run out of money. I got caught up in it all.
"I quite like Robbie Williams but not as much as Nicholas. I liked him when he was in Take That and had blond, short spiky hair. Nicholas won't let me wear the jacket but he already has."
Other items sold at the auction included an Elvis-style jumpsuit for £4,000, a twin-necked guitar from the Let Me Entertain You video for £6,500, Williams' skating outfit from the video of She's The One for £6,000 and hand-written lyrics from the song Millennium for £7,000.
The singer's bed, which he said had seen "plenty of action", was sold for £13,000 and will be given away as a prize on the internet.
